Director Hiro Riko, who has explored the cultures of life and death in Nepal and Tibet, presents a documentary following the Suwa Grand Shrine's ritual offering of deer. The more than 200 festivals held annually at Suwa Grand Shrine, one of Japan's oldest shrines, are shrouded in mystery. Here the ancient deity Mishaguji, who is brought down during important rituals, and the deer sacrifices are deemed indispensable to the rites. While following the seasonal festivals, Director Hiro became aware of the primordial prayers for the cycle of life and set out to recreate the medieval "Mimuro Shinto Ritual," which has long been shrouded in Awe and mystery.
